Choose Report a bug in the Znip sidebar or Help → Report a Bug. Describe what happened and optionally add a reply email. The form shows the app and macOS versions it sends. It does not attach captures or logs. You receive a reference after sending; failures keep your text so you can retry.

Sign in with your purchase email to restore your license and activate your Mac. Local capture, editing, and export work offline. Cloud sharing and account management need internet access.

Yes. Set up familiar shortcuts in Znip’s settings. If macOS already uses the same keys, follow the setup steps to turn off the conflicting system shortcut. Znip needs to be running to receive your shortcut.

The default global shortcuts use Control + Shift + Command: 4 for area, 5 for window, 3 for display, 2 for text / QR, R for display recording, and 6 for vertical scrolling capture. See Keyboard shortcuts for the full list. You can change them in Znip.

They save in Znip’s local library under ~/Library/Application Support/Znip/Library. Copy or export a file when you want to share. Editable projects keep the original image so you can change your annotations later.

Yes. Set a screenshot delay in the capture settings, then capture an area, window, or display. This gives you time to open a menu or show a hover state.

Yes. Capture vertically or horizontally. Choose automatic scrolling or scroll manually while Znip joins the views. Automatic scrolling requires Accessibility permission and works best with stable, scrollable pages.

The clean-desktop capture option excludes desktop clutter from the captured image and can use a plain or custom background. It does not change your desktop settings. Compatibility across apps and macOS versions is still being checked.

Yes. Screen recording is part of the Mac app for demos, walkthroughs, and bug reports.

Yes. Choose microphone and system audio separately in the recording options. Grant the relevant macOS permissions and record a short clip to check your selected inputs.

Product demos, bug reports, short how-tos, and UI walkthroughs. A clip often explains timing better than a still image.

Yes. Choose your camera, corner, shape, size, and mirror setting in the recording controls.

Znip can show clicks while recording. Keystroke overlays are not included.

Yes. Add zoom regions in the recording editor, or use recorded clicks to create zooms. Enable editable cursor capture before recording to adjust cursor motion afterward.

Yes. Pause and resume from the recording controls. You can also restart a take after confirmation or trim its start and end afterward.

No max length is published on the site. Everyday bug clips are usually short. Any limit will appear in release notes.

Arrows, text, and numbered steps. You can also use privacy blocks and backgrounds, then re-edit later.

Mark step 1, 2, and 3 on the image so a how-to is easy to follow.

Solid blocks cover parts of the image before you copy or export. Check that the full secret is covered. Share the exported image, not the editable project, which retains the original content.

Znip has pixelation as well as solid blocks. Blur is not implemented. Use a solid block for sensitive text; pixelation is a visual effect and should not be treated as secure redaction.

Yes. Backgrounds help a capture look cleaner in docs or posts.

Yes. Znip includes a local library so you can open captures again and adjust annotations.

Yes. Trim the start or end before you export.

No. The current timeline trims the start and end. It does not remove a section from the middle, add automatic zooms, or smooth cursor movement.

Znip focuses on screen recordings you can edit and share. You can trim clips, add callouts and adjust the recording’s presentation.

Copy the edited image and paste it into a message or doc, or export a file and attach it. No cloud plan needed.

Export as MP4 or GIF, then attach it in chat, email, or a ticket.

MP4 for longer clips and clearer motion (and audio). GIF for very short silent loops where GIFs work well.

No. Copy and export are in the Mac app. Hosted links are optional cloud later.

If you already have an active Znip Cloud plan, you can upload a screenshot or recording and copy its share link. New Cloud access is by invitation only. Public signup and purchases are closed.

On your Mac. The product saves locally and does not upload captures unless you later opt into cloud upload.

Yes. Text recognition in the current product runs on-device.

Znip needs Screen & System Audio Recording permission for capture. Microphone and Camera permissions apply only when you choose those inputs. You can manage them in System Settings → Privacy & Security.

Modern macOS capture APIs often use the same permission for stills and video. That is normal. Files still stay local unless you upload later.

No. Text and QR recognition run on your Mac. Znip Cloud stores captures you share manually or through optional Auto-upload; it does not train AI on them.

No. Auto-upload is off by default. Turn it on in Znip Cloud to upload new screenshots and completed recordings and copy their links. Screenshots upload before editing. Imports, pasted images, and old captures are excluded. You can turn it off anytime.

Screenshots, screen recording, editing tools, text recognition and the local library. Once your Mac is activated, these tools work offline without a Cloud plan.

Request an invite at znip.app/download. Public downloads, new accounts and purchases are closed. If an invite becomes available, we’ll email your setup steps. Existing customers can keep using Znip and manage their account in the app.

Polar provides receipts for completed purchases. Existing customers can find them in their customer portal. New public purchases are closed while Znip is invite-only.

Cloud renews annually until canceled. You can cancel renewal from Account → Manage billing or the customer portal. Your Mac app license is separate.

No. Local screenshots, recording, editing, copy and export work without Cloud. Cloud is optional for hosted share links.

There is no public trial or download right now. Request an invite to express interest. A request does not create an account or guarantee access.

Contact hey@znip.app with your order reference to request a refund or resolve a billing issue. Refunds are handled through Polar, and applicable consumer rights remain in effect.

Two Macs for one person. Sign in and choose Activate this Mac in Account. Use Manage Macs to release an old activation before activating another Mac.

Your Mac app license includes version 1 updates. You can keep using the version you purchased. Future major versions may be separate purchases. Existing users can continue receiving signed app updates while the public website is invite-only.

Yes. Cancel Cloud renewal anytime from Account → Manage billing or the customer portal. Cloud stays active through the paid period. Your Mac app purchase remains yours.

No. Znip Cloud is a personal screenshot and recording sharing plan.

New uploads that would exceed 10GB stop. Existing links remain available while your plan is active and within its delivery allowance. Delete hosted captures to free space. Your local originals stay on your Mac.

Only the 10GB plan is available. Delete hosted captures to make room; Znip does not automatically upgrade your account.

Up to 1GB per recording and 50MB per image; 2,000 uploads and 20GB uploaded per UTC calendar month; 100GB downloaded and 20,000 delivery requests per month. Public views and owner downloads share the delivery allowance.

Public share links stop. Sign in to download or delete stored files within usage limits. We do not currently automatically delete files on expiry. Keep local originals: Cloud is a sharing service, not a backup guarantee.

If you have an invitation or existing license, use the Znip download provided with your access. The app is signed and notarized by Apple. Move it to Applications and choose Open if macOS asks. For other warnings, email hey@znip.app with the message.

Enable Znip under System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen Recording. Quit and reopen Znip after granting access.

Confirm Znip is running. Check for conflicts in System Settings → Keyboard → Keyboard Shortcuts, or choose another combination in Znip’s shortcut settings.

Capture a tighter, sharper area. Proofread before sending important text.

Include the full code, sharp and upright. Retake closer if needed.

Trim first. Prefer MP4 for long clips. Free disk space and retry. Report persistent bugs to Support with macOS and Znip versions.
