Local screenshots, screen recordings, and text recognition stay on your Mac. Here is what happens when you use this website.
Your captures start on your Mac.
Screenshots, recordings, editable projects, and recognized text are saved locally. Text and QR recognition run on your Mac. Uploading is your choice: only the captures you select for Cloud sharing leave the app.
Editable projects retain original content. Share a flattened export when redacting private details.
Accounts and payments.
We use your email to send sign-in codes, associate purchases, and manage your account. Sessions are stored securely in macOS Keychain. Device activation records identify your licensed Macs. Polar handles payment details, receipts, and subscriptions; Znip does not store your card details.
Optional Cloud sharing.
Your chosen uploads and their filenames are stored using Cloudflare R2 and D1. Anyone with a public share link can access that capture while sharing is active. Delete a capture in Znip Cloud to remove the hosted file and stop its link. Keep local originals: Cloud is not a backup guarantee.
After a subscription expires, public links stop; you can sign in to download and delete stored files within the usage limits. We do not currently automatically delete files on expiry. Email us to request account or data deletion.
Bug reports.
When you choose Send report, we receive your description, optional reply email, and the app and macOS versions shown in the form. Screenshots, recordings, logs, license keys, and file paths are not attached automatically. Reports are stored for up to 90 days to investigate issues and reply if you provided an address.
Permissions and protection.
Screen & System Audio Recording, Camera, Microphone, and Accessibility permissions are used for features you choose. Manage them in System Settings → Privacy & Security. Temporary rate-limit records help prevent abuse. Hosting providers may process network metadata to deliver and protect the service.
Website analytics.
Cloudflare Web Analytics measures visits and loading performance without advertising cookies. We do not send sign-in codes, payment details, or bug report contents to analytics.
Questions or removal requests.
Email hey@znip.app for support, access, or deletion requests. If you previously subscribed to email updates, your saved removal link still works.
